If you have read many of my posts you realize that I love riding my electric bike! Adore it, but it is summer time in Florida and the rain, and thunderstorms have kept me as of late, car pooling when I have to go out, or sceduling my trips to keep my gas admissions down.
However, I have had one sad side effect from not getting out on my bike as much….weight gain….yes, you just don’t realize how much energy you are expending or choosing to expend when you are running out and about on your electric bike.
So, It got me thinking that maybe I should look into a fitness bike for when I can’t get out and about because of the weather. Boy its there a lot to know, and other factors on how much to spend….
So, here’s a quick run down on some features if you decide you need to stay active if the weather keeps you from riding your electric bicycle.
Considerations When Buying an Exercise Bike
One of the most popular fitness exercise machines is the exercise bike but purchasing one is not as simple as going to the mall and choosing one. There are lots of things to consider before you do this. You may want to consider not only the outlay, type of bike, whether you prefer an upright or recumbent exercise bike, and how comfortable and simple it is to adjust.
How Much are You Prepared To Spend?
Naturally this is always the most crucial consideration but you shouldn’t go for the lowest cost exercise bike you can find as it may perhaps not last for very long, be easy to use or give you good exercise. An entry-level bike at the lowest will cost you on the order of $200, and although this will be adequate it may not have any of the features that can be found on higher quality training bikes. For a little more, say between $300 and $650 you will get a better quality exercise bike with some features such as magnetic resistance, heart rate control, a comfy seat and generally quiet and effortless operation.
For about $550 you will be able to purchase a first-rate exercise bike with all the features you may require. For this cost you ought to expect a lot of built-in workout programs, simple to use display console, and resistance control, handlebars that are simple to change and a very good guarantee. Comfort of the Exercise Bike
Naturally your exercise bike should be comfortable as you will be spending quite a lot of time on it! You will need a well padded seat and handlebars that can be adjusted easily. Are you going to obtain an upright or recumbent exercise bike? Many people find that recumbent exercise bikes are more comfy to use than upright exercise bikes as you sit in a more reclined position so there is not as much of strain on your back. Upright exercise bikes, even though they are not nearly as comfy, do have the advantage that you can simply increase the level of the workout by standing up to pedal just like you would do on a regular bicycle.
Adjusting the Resistance
Resistance on exercise bikes is variable in 2 ways. Most of the cheaper models use tension and a belt, more costly models use magnetic resistance which is quieter and more consistent. Exercise bikes that use magnetic resistance usually use a button or knob. A button is easier to use.
Heart Rate Monitors
It is extremely crucial to be able to observe your heart rate while training as increasing your heart rate is why you are exercising. Always buy an exercise bike with a built-in heart rate monitor so that you can alter your training accordingly. Practically all the exercise bikes do have this although less expensive bikes will often only have a pulse rate monitor integrated into the handlebars. The high-priced exercise bikes will have exercises that are driven by your heart rate so they adjust automatically to keep your heart rate at a level that you decide. This is a very nice aspect but not vital if you can’t afford it.
Integral Workout Programs
Several of the less expensive exercise bikes do not have exercise incorporated programs. Although you may feel this is not too much of a disadvantage you will find that merely sitting on the bike and pedalling will turn out to be dull very swiftly! With workout programs you can modify your workout and the feedback you get will assist with your motivation. Displays that give you feedback on distance covered, calories burned and heart rate etc. actually do improve your motivation and keep you exercising longer. The majority of the exercise bikes in the middle range i.e. between approximately $300 and $600 will give you a realistic range of built-in workouts and a fairly good display. More expensive exercise bikes i.e. in the $600 and above range will have a very wide range of workouts and first-rate console displays with a whole range of feedback information.
Conclusion
Of course, with exercise bikes, as with other fitness exercise machines, you get what you pay for. It isn’t a good plan to purchase the lowest cost exercise bike you can find as it might not last very long and you won’t be happy with the workout that it gives you. It is not obligatory to buy a very expensive bike but we recommend obtaining one for around $300 which will give you good quality exercise and keep your motivation high. During this economic crisis and continued global warming, the need for sustainable development has become a now issue instead of a later issue. Both private and government entities (including the EPA ) have come up with programs and products that promote “green” production and consumption. These environment-friendly practices are now being used in numerous firms and industries.
But what about our humble abodes? Are our homes as "anti global waming" as they should be? Continued efforts to sustain the environment should first and foremost be undertaken under our own roof. These can be done with the use of products that consume less energy and other resources. Over time, the use of these products can result not only in savings but also in the reduction of waste and materials harmful to our homes and the environment.
Here’s a quick list of 10 items I’ve discovered that can make a world of a difference.
1.Heat-energy recovery system
· Sensible Heat Energy Recovery System (SHERS) uses heat generated from an air-conditioner or refrigerator to heat water. Payback period is anywhere from six months to two years
2.The Eco Bio Block
· Made of volcanic stones and beneficial bacteria, is used to purify water in home aquariums, water tanks and big bodies of water such as ponds, lakes and marshes. When placed in aquariums for the home, there is no need to filter, clean or change water for a period of one to three years.
3.Biowash ball
· Washing clothes without using a detergent may seem strange. Introducing the Anabess biowash ball, it’s made of natural ceramics & alters the chemical composition of the water so it can wash clothes more effectively without liquid detergent. It should last over 3 years. Think of the savings in wear & tear on the car from running to the store for more detergent.
4.Air-con with inverter technology
· The Panasonic Envio series of air-conditioners makes use of an “inverter technology” that changes compressor operation speed to match a changing room temperature and adjust power output accordingly, which leads to reduced energy consumption of up to 50 percent, while product only costs about 14% more than the average AC. The payback period may be expected in about seven months..
5.Low Flow faucets
· Moen has heeded the call for water conservation by coming up with WaterSense-certified bathroom faucets. With the help of new aerator technology these Moen faucets use 30% less water than other models but still feel just as powerful on your hands.
6.Compact fluorescent lamp
· Much has been said about the efficiency of compact fluorescent lamps or CFLs. They last about 5x longer than incandescent lamps and consume 80 percent less energy with the same level of brightness. Companies such as Purely Products even carry CFLs that double as ionizers for the room, eliminating the need for an unsightly ionizer on the floor.
7.Reusable shopping bags
· The impact of just one person changing to reusable bags over a two-year period is significant. Used twice a week for two years a consumer would save 832 plastic bags from going in a landfill.
8.Biodegradable Cellulose Sandwich bags
· Typical plastic bags are derived from petroleum and take well over a lifespan to decompose. These biodegrade in 30 to 90 days in soil BUT actually keep food lasting longer, unlike plastic, they don’t release gases which spoil food taste.
9.Smart Surge Protector
· Green Home introduced a smart surge protector. The power strip can ‘sense’ the flow of electrical current through the strip’s control outlet. The Smart Strip can fully power off selected items when not in use with this patent pending unique feature!
A small electronic device inside the Smart Strip monitors the current on a single outlet. Let’s say the computer is plugged into that single outlet. When your computer is finished shutting down, the current draw from the computer drops to its idle current — and the Smart Strip senses the current change, automatically shutting off all of the computer peripherals.
The Smart Strip Power Strip is the only surge protector on the market today with energy saving electronics. The 10 outlet surge protector version has 1 Control Outlet, 3 Constant Hot Outlets, and 6 Switched Outlets.
10.Compostable Trash Bags
· These BioBags are made from GMO free starch and are 100% biodegradable and 100% compostable.
Now that you know about these products start using them daily. We each can do our part by changing our daily routines just slightly.
If you are considering an electric bike you are not alone. They are growing in popularity around the globe, as pollutions, and fuel prices drag us forward to rethink our motoring options. Going green with an electric bike is a simple way to do your part to reduce your carbon foot print You can purchase an electric bicycle motor kit for your own bike and have it together in less than an hour. Then you will be on your way at up to 20mpg. saving fuel, car insurance, and living the green life.
E-Bike Trendy
Sales of electric bikes constantly grow. This year 170 thousand units were already sold in the US. While during last year 120 thousand units were sold. Increase in sales can be explained by economic situation (gasoline prices) and flexibility in movement (no traffic jams). And there is an added value of owners feeling they contribute to "greener" environment.
There is an old Russian saying: "Everything new is well forgotten old." First motorized bicycle was invented more than 100 years ago. But it was almost ignored by the western world since then. And there is no doubt that for most people driving a car to work is more comfortable than an electric bicycle . E-bikes can become an alternative to cars due to economic crisis and technological improvements.
There are several things to consider before purchasing an e-bike or even a folding electric bike : If you buy it, will you use it? Environmental variables – yearly average number of rainy days in your region, average temperature, the level of air pollution, etc. On the way you’re planning to use,are there special lines for bikes? Do you have facilities? For example: are there showers at your workplace if you want to use e-bike to reach work,? Do you have any health limitations/inconveniences that may prevent you from riding a bicycle? For instance: you start feeling your knees after some time.
If you decided to buy an e-bike, you can use it to get a better shape. How to do it? We can divide training into two main parts: aerobic and anaerobic. "Aerobic" means "requiring air", where "air" usually means oxygen. Anaerobic without air means the opposite of aerobics. Human physiology allows us to reach maximim intensities for short periods of time (anaerobic) and sustain medium intensity for longer periods (aerobic). Thus,100m sprint will be anaerobic and 5km run with constant speed will be considered aerobics. From now on I’ll assume that e-bike will be used for long distances, thus we’re talking about aerobics.
You can convert your own bike into an electric very simply with a electric bike motor kit. Going green has never been easier, follow one man’s journey on an electric bicycle.
However, that might soon change if an-out-work restaurant manager is successful in riding a Wisper electric bicycle around the world from Beijing to London, scheduled to arrive in time for the 2012 Olympic Games opening ceremony.
The journey being undertake by a 33-year-old Spaniard from Barcelona Guim Valls Teruel, starting from the Bird’s Nest Olympic Stadium in Beijing in May will cross five continents concluding three years later in east London.
"I want to spread the message of this incredible invention to all corners of the world," he said announcing his journey in Beijing, "millions of Chinese people already use them and they can be an important part of a green revolution in the rest of the world." Mr Teruel, who came to China two years ago to manage a restaurant which then folded, bought an electric bike – also known as a "pedelec" – when he got fed up with sitting in Beijing’s interminable traffic jams.
Mr Teruel plans to pedal-glide through China, Australia, India, Europe, South America and the east coast of the United States before arriving in England via Ireland using solar power to recharge his three batteries.
He added "It’s so easy it feels like you’re floating".
The electric bike even the folding electric bike – a pedal bicycle which is assisted by a battery-powered motor that makes pedaling feel almost effortless – has caught on with astonishing speed in China, a nation of 450 million push-bike owners.
According to the China Bicycle Association, sales of electric bikes stood at 58,000 in 1998, compared with the 20 million recorded just a decade later in 2008. Industry analysts have predicted that 350 million Chinese could eventually upgrade to an electric.
The e-bike has been much slower to catch on in Europe and America, even though it is has zero emissions, is whisper-quiet and can deliver a commuter to his desk in London or Barcelona without the need for a shower and a change of clothes.
Electric Bike Conversions Kits For your Own Bikes Click Here AMSTERDAM, the Netherlands – The electric bicycle was the driving force for the Dutch bike market in 2008. In the other main European bike market, Germany, electric bikes are now gaining momentum while also in other markets in Europe electric bicycles are beating the financial crisis with ongoing sales growth. According to the Dutch industry organizations RAI and BOVAG, the number of e-Bikes sold in 2008 has again risen beyond all expectations; to about 140,000 units. Total sales in Germany 2008 raise to 100,000 units. For 2009 this number is expected to grow with about 25 to 30%, says the German ZIV association.
On the expectations for Europe’s 2009 sales it is said to grow to about 400,000, according to industry associations. This number again seems at the low end of the scale given the fact that in Europe’s main markets, Germany and the Netherlands, the public interest in e-Bikes even folding electric bike s is at a high level.
The e-Bike business in china remained strong last year which is the world biggest e-Bike market. Total sales of electric bicycles in 2008 stood at 21 million. According to officials at the China Bicycle Association (CBA),due to economic crises last year the ebike business of China is strong with only a modest 4% reduction in export of complete e-Bikes.
China’s 2008 exports exported to 170 different countries which stood at 580,000 complete e-Bikes. The CBA figures do not include the very large numbers of CKD and SKD electric bikes that are exported to India and the EU. Sales will become more larger than the export number suggest with them included.
The recently founded Light Electric Vehicle Association says on the dynamic growth in the last year in India, many smaller markets, as well as the EU and USA that: “Even in the difficult year, it is easy to see that electric bicycles are a very important vehicle category that is becoming one of the top 5 vehicle categories used by humans worldwide.”
Though electric bikes are not a new invention, they are new to many people. With everybody constantly trying to find a better way to be green this is a trend that is on the rise. The point of an electric bike is to allow you adequate transportation without harming the environment. It makes getting around so much easier and convenient compared to walking but it is not harmful to the earth. Many people are not familiar with how an electric bike even a folding electric bike works. It really is quite simple though. This type of transportation can be a great alternative to the use of fossil fuels in regular cars.
Electric bicycles are often called e bikes. It become much easier for you to get around with less work. The act of pedaling the bike is assisted by a motor. Of course for it to be efficient pedalling is still required. However, transportation become much much faster and easier while using this bike. This is a great solution for those who seek a better alternative to driving a car. It does go much faster than a regular bicycle. By using an electric bicycle you can go at least twice as fast as a regular bicycle. Even those who do not ride a bike feel it easy to use it ans see a significant difference in speed.
There are many different types of electric bike . Some of them require that you do pedal as well but many allow you to speed up by using controls on the handlebars. If you are not sure what type of bicycle is best for you then you should gather information before making a purchase. Of course regarding the bicycles,it is also important to know all legal requirements for your area. These bikes also come with varying speed levels so take care to check this as well.
The Electric Vehicle market place is an exciting and rapidly changing environment. While electric motors and even cars have been around for some time now there has been a relatively slow uptake globally for electric transport. This is until now. In the super growth cities of China the acceptance, usage and integration of Electric Bikes is phenomenal. In fact this year for domestic market of China alone, will manufacture and sell over 6 million electric bicycles. With populations in the larger cities pushing 15 – 20 million people personal transport is a huge logistic, environmental and economic issue. By far, electric Bicycles are the most efficient personal motorized transport product available. In any city with high population densities the function of a power assisted bicycle makes perfect sense.
The average cost of a car to run back and forth from work to home is over $150 per week. The Electric Bicycle makes commuting in urban areas a breeze. The combination of pedal and power assistance allows commuters to travel distances of up to 50 KM for around 5 – 10 cents per day per charge! Any one who can find a cheaper motorized transport option that makes almost no noise with no pollution are those i would challenge to! Compared with an Electric Bicycle,in Melbourne even catching a tram around $3 each way making it almost 50 times more expensive.
Unbelievably some Australian regulatory authorities have challenged the use of the electric bicycle . In fact in some rural towns in NSW police have banned electric bicycles. While other countries not only have embraced the fabulous benefits of the electric bicycle we continue to drag our feet in integration this wonderfully efficient, non polluting, safe transport alternative. Globally most countries offer incentives to purchase electric vehicles including electric bicycle or folding electric bike to help keep the roads less congested, pollution down and provide an efficient transport option to consumers.
Electric bikes come in a wide variety of models, with different styles presenting different functions and modes of riding. Some electric bikes are based on throttle like our line of eZee bikes.) In these cases, engaging either a twist-grip handle or pressing a lever will cause the electric bicycle to receive power from the motor. The rider can either cruise effortlessly or pedal in conjunction with the throttle with throttle-based electric bikes. Other electric bikes feature pedal assist , where no throttle is present but power rushes in from the motor every time the rider presses down on one of the pedals.
Pedal assisted bikes often feature a number of different modes of assistance, where the motor provides either a marginal amount of assistance or as much as triples the amount of effort being put in, depending on how it’s set. Pedal assisted bikes are excellent for those looking to have their regular riding augmented by an additional power source, to assist them in reaching certain distances, overcoming difficult hills and inclines, getting exercize without being overwhelmed, and cutting time off of one’s commute. There are many electric bikes which based on throttle and pedal assist, suach as the Giant Suede E.
Other types of electric bikes like: using a conversion kit to convert standard bicycles into electric bikes (take the Bionx conversion kit as a prime example),and folding electric bikes exist as well. Folding electric bikes provide all of the functionality of an electric bike, combined with the compactness and portability of a folding electric bike . With the eZee Quando leading the pack, our electric folding bikes are exceedingly popular. The Quando is perfect for anyone dealing with tight quarters, whether it be an apartment in New York or on a boat in Florida.
You need to get help to select the right electric bike for yourself? People always ask the first question that "what is the best electric bike?"

You could get your kit and be riding your new bike in the same day. For those who prefer to be hands off, there are plenty of options for buying ready-to-go bicycles. Both of these options function just like a normal bicycle except with some extra battery assistance. The speed and power you get will not be the same as you would from a motorcycle.
Know Your State’s Law
If you’re planning to purchase an electric bicycle to use in the United States, you need to be aware of your own state’s laws. Most states hold up the national policy that electric bikes must operate under 20 mph and have a limit of 750 watts. However,it’s not regulated with those companies who produce these bicycles. This means they could produce a bicycle or motor kit that could be illegal. Also, most states don’t require you to get special insurance for your electric bicycle. But for any changes in policy that might occur, you’ll want to check the Internet. Since electric bicycles are relatively new, the laws and regulations around them could change very quickly.

What the Heck is an Electric Bike?
By Levi Quinn
Most people seem to be a little confused as to what an electric bike is. I mean is it a scooter, or a bike? Can you still pedal on it? Will the motor take you a long way? Is it really worth looking at, or is it just one of these Chinese gimmicky products?
Actually an electric bike is a pretty cool product. It helps you get the exercise you need, and go further distances at the same time. Let’s go over the electric bike in itself. The electric bike comes in two different styles. The first looks like a traditional styled bike but the second looks like a motor scooter.
An electric bike can look like a motor scooter. There are no regulations against it, but you must specify that it is an electric bike and doesn’t have the power of a scooter. An electric bike has certain specifications and is not allowed to run at speeds higher than 15 mph. So the motor cannot be made to go faster than that.
An electric bike does not require that you have any special licensing requirements. But some countries do have certain requirements for electric bikes. For example, in the US a person under the age of 14 cannot ride an electric bike.
In most countries you don’t have to register an electric bike. This also means you don’t have to have insurance, or pay taxes on it. In most cases you aren’t even required to wear a helmet, although we do suggest that you do.
On the other hand a scooter can go up to 30 mph; and although you don’t have to have a special license, you do have to have one.
One of the greatest benefits I have found to the electric bike is that they run on both electric energy and can be manually powered too. That means you can use the electric motor, or the pedals, whichever you feel most comfortable with at the time.
So, if you want to exercise for a while you can use the pedals, and when you get tired you can switch to the electric motor and have the bike impulse itself. You can also use the function of pedal assistance. This allows you to use the pedals and the motor to help you out, which is a great feature for inclines. When you have pedal assist, you feel like you are getting the exercise you need but in an easier and faster way.
The point is that an electric bike can help you get the exercise you need, enjoy long bike rides. They save you money because you don’t have to continually go out in the car and spend on expensive gas. They are safe and make an afternoon out truly enjoyable.
Recently, electric bikes have gained a lot more popularity because the battery technology is even better, and they are much better for the environment. This is one gadget you want to try! The electric bike brings hours of fun, and exercise to people of all ages.

If you are looking or an inexpensive electric bicycle you might check out the E-Zip 2008 Trailz bike by Currie Technologies.
As Electric bikes go this one is on the low side of the price range and is quite inexpensive. You will find out in the retail market other electric bikes range anywhere from $700 up to $3000 in the U.S. dollars. The E-Zip 2008 Trailz bike sells for about half of that in the $ 275- $350 range at this posting.
The E-Zip is a very solid bike, and much of the sturdiness comes from the sheer weight of the thing. Getting started by pumping and then turn on the throttle switch, the motor kicks in and you are on your way taking hills without strain or sweat.
The bike will arrive partly-assembled in its box. It will take as long to put this bike together as it does to install an electric bicycle motor kit. I would estimate the time frame being around the half hour mark if you are mechanically talented, or an hour if you are no so gifted in the mechanics department. It is not difficult it involves attaching the seat, front wheel and the pedals. It comes with a lead-acid battery, and you might want to plug it in before you start your bike assembly as it will take about 2 to 3 hours for it to come to full charge. The E-ZIp is a heavy bike by itself, and the weight of this battery, and the motor itself make the bike heavy and cumbersome. If you have to haul it upstairs to an apartment or into a building for a job, maybe you should look for a lighter weight bike.
According to a Curry employee that field testing range is: Total Time: 39 min Trip distance: 10.17 miles Average Speed: 15.4 mph Max Speed: 20.02 Weighs 76 lbs
Currie sells a second battery for about $100 dollars, and is easily detachable, and interchangeable. The life of the battery stated in the manual is one year.
For an entry level bike, it is a good deal, but if you plan on doing a lot of riding, you may want to spend a little more, and get a lighter weight bike with better components, and a longer battery life.
Propelled by a new and improved technology, higher oil costs, the style, and the perfunctory for all things green, worldwide sales of bikes driven by battery-powered electrical motors have climbed nearly twenty percent since 2005, a trend projected to accelerate particularly in developing nations, where the middle class is rising. The electric bicycle business is young, but and growing faster than anyone could have projected.
Japan and China combined are the biggest contributors to this trend producing and selling close to 24 million bikes and more growth is anticipated. American electric bicycles manufacturing is working its way up the electric bike ranks too.
Buoyed by a just minted middle class and engine bans in some towns, China is manufacturing electric bicycle in domestic and foreign markets, a figure predicted to climb to twenty-five million by 2009. China that now leads the world in electric bike production and sales. And plenty of its 450 million bike riders are increasingly trading up to electrical.
In the US, consumers are also migrating in larger numbers to e-bikes, drawn in part by lighter and stronger batteries and practical assists like bicycle lanes and lockers. E- bike sales are predicted to double by 2009 to two hundred thousand from 100,000 in 2005. Further out, e-bike sales are up in Vietnam, Thailand, SA, Australia and Eastern Europe. And in bike-friendly Holland, bicyclists in their 60s are selecting e-bikes to remain in shape with less strain.
The coming of Ultra Motors, an English electrical vehicle pretender which just won recognition from Red Herring, a technology site, and from the World Economic Forum, confirms to India’s e-bike potential.
In only 2 months, the company has sold four thousand e-bikes with its strategic partner, Hero, India’s largest bike maker. Ultra is incorporating its better motor, designed by a Russian scientist, into Hero’s bikes ; it plans the same for scooters and rickshaws, for sales of nearly three hundred thousand cars by 2010.
With the world population growing at a rate that makes the need for greener technology a mandatory obligation for humanity, the electric bicycle is a small band aid on a festering wound.
Going green just makes a lot of sense!
Do have bike you want to convert to an Electric bike, why not try Electric Bicycle Motor Kits to convert your bike to an Electric Bike.
