Static Exercise Bikes

If you are looking for a way to exercise without getting on the open road or into the mountains then a static exercise bike could be the answer.

There have been a plethora of innovations recently in exercise bikes. The popularity of spinning comes from gyms getting wind of the craze. Spinning bikes are now available for home use but that sort of defeats the object of a spinning class as your pace is led by the monitor.

Traditionally the static exercise bike had only a couple of settings to change the level of difficulty. These days there are bikes that you can move from side to side to imitate climbing and others that run on rollers so that you get the real feel of riding a bike. You should decide based on what you are going to use the exercise bike for.

As a basic form of exercise you can even buy a set of pedals that you use while sitting down watching the tv in the recumbent position. The typical impulse buy doesn’t convince me as they get used for a short time and then hidden under a bed. One possible usage for these type of machines is for injured people who are immobilised temporarily.

A basic exercise bike is enough for most people’s exercise needs but without the attraction of being "sexy" it is more likely to be used as a clothes hanger rather than an exercise machine.

The latest static bikes have counters of virtually all the variables, calories, kilometres, terrain differing resistance levels etc you can even move from side to side on imaginary hills and mountains and it might well be appropriate to spend more to make sure that you feel obliged to use it. If you invest more money in something often it gets used more.

Whatever type you get you have a couple of guarantees. If you use it you will benefit healthwise. You will get better resistance, a lower resting heart rate and greater stamina, all desireable features. You will be guaranteed a better quality of life too. Also if you need more space in your wardrobe and don’t use the bike at least you will have a place to hang your shirts.
